This is the list of notable ghats in the city and along with these, there are many other small ghats that serve the purpose of bathing during the Pushkaralu.

The 3rd largest city in the state of Andhra Pradesh being placed exactly in the middle and equidistant from state capital and financial capital of Andhra, Rajahmundry is connected well with all the major cities and towns in the country and with every nuke and corner of the state. Rajahmundry is well connected with trains and buses from every corner. It is a major railway station in the line of Howrah- Chennai. Sri Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu Airport, Rajahmundry has 3 daily flights from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad.

There are speculations that new flights are being started to Bengaluru, Chennai and Mumbai via Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada as the night landing has become operational since May 1st, 2015. 

South Central Railway will be operating special and extra trains to meet the rush of passengers during the days of Pushkaralu and APSRTC will be running special buses on the days of eve. There are two railway stations within in the city namely GODAVARI and RAJAHMUNDRY. All the trains will be provided with halts in the stations during the 12 days.

All the Ghats in the city have temples around them and Gowthami Ghat is major among them. The whole road has temples on one side that is on the banks of the river and is also called  as Temple Road of the city. Pushkarams and their prominence (PART 7)

Welcome to the part 7 of Godavari Pushkaralu. As the saying goes "Health is wealth", measures should be taken for maintaining the healthy environment, surroundings and water. Diseases are water prone and there every chance of dreadful diseases being spread in such huge crowd. The previous Pushkaras have been organised well according to plans and are able to prevent the spreading of diseases.

The State Department of Health provided medical assistance to the pilgrims and prevented the outbreak of epidemics during the Pushkarams. The State Government deployed medical personnel, equipment and medicines at all 164 bathing ghats in all the seven districts from July 30 to August 10. The banks of the river were chlorinated regularly. There was a strict monitoring of food and drinking water on the lines of the model adopted at the Kumbh Mela in Allahabad in 2001.

The Andhra Pradesh Government spent Rs. 172 crore and made a request to the Planning Commission for a grant of Rs. 100 crore for undertaking construction of permanent structures, bathing ghats, renovation of temples and laying of roads. The 12-day Godavari Pushkaram in Andhra Pradesh was a grand success by all accounts.

The government is spending more than 200 cores alone on health and medical assistance this year. Other Private organisations and MNCs present in the city are funding for medicines, vaccines and other important health care measures. The government hospital in Rajahmundry is being turned to a Multi Super Speciality Hospital for the convenience of the visitors who visit the city during the peak times of Pushkaras.

Here is our Part 6. For this Maha Kumbhamelas to be organised successfully, there must be enough security personnel to control the pilgrims and maintain the law and order in the city. Last governments succeeded in that and made the Khumbamela one of the most biggest and successful event in the history of Rajahmundry and Godavari.

Over 15,000 police personnel were deployed for the twelve-day Godavari Pushkarams along the banks of the river. Besides, 10,572 policemen were posted in East and West Godavari districts. An elaborate police arrangement was made in view of the gathering of over five crore pilgrims from different parts of the country. A control room was established at Hyderabad. Better communication system and 200 CCTV facility were provided at important bathing ghats to monitor the crowds. Boats and trained police swimmers are deployed at strategic places around the ghats to prevent any mishap. Luckily, the mega event passed off without any untoward happening anywhere.

Even this time the governments are planning for the best security arrangements for the visitors and smooth happening of the Pushkaras. They have planned to install 1000 Closed Circuit Cameras in all the areas out of which more than 500 cameras are being installed alone in Rajahmundry where the pilgrim count is expected to touch 2-5 crores. Private firms in the city are sponsoring for the best security measurements and smooth rolling of the biggest fest in the State.

Pushkarams and their prominence (PART 5)

Welcome to the 5th part of Godavari Pushkarams. The collective effort of all the departments in the government made the previous versions of Pushkarams a grand success. Pushkarams are not just a holy dip in the hallowed river they also mean a lot to the people of Telugu states. It is the major part for the ancestral remembrance for most of the people in both the states. For convenient travel and transport, here is how the state government managed everything.

The South Central Railway made elaborate arrangements to transport 2.50 lakh pilgrims every day during the 12 day-long Godavari Pushkaram. As many as 396 special trains were organized for this mega-religious event from Rajahmundry and Basara. Around 500 personnel of the Railway Police Force were deployed to conduct vigilance checks and prevent thefts.

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) operated nearly 1100 special buses for the Godavari Pushkaram –2003. It arranged special package tours from Rajahmundry on various routes. Similar package tours were also arranged from other districts. The RTC provided amenities like shelters, computer reservation counters, seating accommodation, drinking water, temporary toilets, canteens, temporary telephone booths at control points and cell phones. It also arranged medical camps at temporary bus stations for passengers.

With the best transport arrangements in and around the city, people also covered the areas in and around Rajahmundry. Those places which were small villages around the city 12 years ago are now a part of the city and are expanding at great speed. Being in the middle of two biggest cities of the state, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam all the private companies are willing to invest in this city. Major real estate companies like Bridge County have already invested in the city and are experiencing great profits.

Pushkarams and their prominence (PART 4)

Welcome to the 4th part of "Godavari Pushkarams". Lets continue from where we left. 2003 Pushkaras were the most memorable part in the life of every Rajahmundrian. They took the city to the next level. From a historical town to the most prominent city in the state, Rajahmundry has grown a lot. This can be best termed as the "Rise of Rajahmundry."

Here is how the Govt. took required steps to organise the Pushkaras efficiently and satisfyingly. To educate the visiting tourists about the significance of the holy festival, 7000 hoardings were put up in each of the seven districts. They elaborated on the precautions and guidelines for keeping the surroundings neat and clean during the holy dip. Around 500 slides were also prepared to educate the tourists on environmental issues and places of tourism. All India Radio and Doordharshan had made elaborate arrangements for broadcasting and telecasting the Pushkaram events. The Department of Posts released four special covers depicting the Godavari Rail-Road Bridge at Rajahmundry, Goutam Maharshi, Sir Arthur Cotton and Kandukuri Veereshalingam. To create a cultural atmosphere, publicity was also mounted through the folk media. Around 34 thousand persons including volunteers from NGOs, NSS, NCC, Scouts and Guides were in attendance for providing various services to the pilgrims. All volunteers were trained to help the large congregations everywhere. All the efforts from all the departments collectively proved worthy and made the last Pushkaras a grand success. 

This year along with all the departments from the government, firms like Bridge county are taking special interest in making this Pushkarams the best. Becoming the heart of the city Bridge County has a prominent role to play in

coming days in the city. It is the best time invest in housing societies like Bridge County as per the present scenario. In our next part we will let you know how the transport has been developed in, from and to the city. And how they supported in organising the pushkarams effectively.
